Graduation Day!
Well we are officially trained in the ways of birthing. We completed our childbirth classes at Reston Hospital this weekend. Jon as always kept me laughing through the whole thing. All the students show up the first day with our pillows and blankets and we walk in and Jon says "is this the slumber party?" We got all the info on what to expect (good and bad) during delivery and even got a tour of the hospital labor and delivery rooms. I was really impressed with how large the individual rooms are and how much personal attention you get. The second day we learned about the wonderful epidural and got to try out diapering and swaddling (aka "burrito wrap") on our little doll. There was also the breastfeeding introduction which considering it was Sunday was very appropriate that we learned how to do the "football hold". I definitely feel more educated and better prepared for the big day. Let's just hope little Claire doesn't get too hefty and become a "BBNCO" (big baby no come out!)

Congratulations on you're graduation. If that labor goes more than 12 hours, tell them to check and make sure the nose isn't getting stuck on the pelvic bone. I missed a really good Red Sox game back in 1991 because the doctor didn't realize Ben was facing backwards, what a bummer, 5 extra hours of labor for a stuck nose,(and the hospital didn't have cable).
Moving on, I think people are still trying to call us on our land line. Yes it's true we still have dial up, which we keep the computer hooked up to the laptop, so for Bill call 571-242-0036, and Beth, 571-242-3028.
And last but not least let's hear it for the Red Sox. As Thomas Boswell said, "Life imitates the World Series." You win a few in the early part of the century, then you have 86 tough years. After all that you win two championships in three years. Who hasn't been through that? It wouldn't be so bad, but that 86 years seems more like 87...... We're going for two in a row. I won't even get started on the Patriots.
Um, you do know that you married into the family of Big Baby No Come Out, right?
What a weekend. As I sit here getting ready to mail more books, I am reflecting on how much there is to do in just about any city in the US. Ben and I went to Detroit to watch the Lions play the Broncos. Unfortunately the Broncos forgot to show up. The final score was about 43 to 7. The 7 I think was against the second string. Jake Cutler got injured in about the 3rd quarter and Patrick Ramsey, (formerly of Redskin fame had to take over).
We also saw the Ford Rouge plant where they make F-150 pickup trucks. Start to finish takes about three hours and then they are the dealer lots in about 48 hours. Very interesting. They also go into the history of the plant, Henry Ford, etc.
After that, we went to the Motown museum in downtown Detroit. Very interesting. Barry Gordy started it in a single house in 1959, gradually bought next four houses on the street and then in 1968 bought a building in Detroit.
